ABOUT US
The Lighthouse is part of Emmaus Transformation Trust, a charity with Christian foundations and values, supporting a wide range of people in need. Lighthouses are physical spaces of varying sizes in local communities, filled with kindness, belief, and hope. They are living expressions of love in action, vibrant hubs that host a range of creative projects to support, encourage, and empower those who find themselves on the margins.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are recruiting for a new Lighthouse Building Keeper to help maintain the Woking Town Centre Lighthouse as a welcoming environment for our guests. This role will have considerable variety depending on what’s happening that day, and therefore requires adaptability and flexibility.
Key responsibilities include:
Working with the Centre Manager and Lighthouse Directors to maintain and enhance beautiful spaces
Resolving a large variety of practical tasks to ensure the Lighthouse remains welcoming, safe, clean, and orderly each day
Undertaking organisational and cleaning tasks after daily sessions to ensure the space is ready for the next day’s projects
Carrying out routine fire safety and building-related health and safety activities and following up on actions
Overseeing and maintaining consumable stock levels such as WC-related items, cleaning products, light bulbs, and batteries
Communicating with the Centre Manager, wider cleaning staff, and contractors to ensure building needs are addressed
Helping move stock, equipment, donations, or clearing the building of unwanted items
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate may have experience in cleaning, simple maintenance tasks, or health and safety checks, though this is not essential. What is essential is a passion for caring for the building and ensuring it is a welcoming, safe, and uplifting place for all.
Specifically, we are looking for someone who is:
Confident taking initiative, resourceful, and able to make decisions on a range of practical tasks
Practical, organised, and efficient, with excellent attention to detail
Adaptable and flexible and able to complete physical tasks (i.e. lifting, moving, reaching high and low spaces)
Capable of holding a variety of responsibilities and prioritising effectively
Motivated by helping others
The successful candidate must have empathy with, and the ability to model, The Lighthouse values of compassion, dignity, acceptance, and love for all. While there is no occupational requirement to be Christian, the postholder must be comfortable working for a prayerful organisation with a Christian ethos.
