ABOUT

OUR MISSION

The Lighthouse mission is to address poverty of resources, relationships, identity and spirit in communities across Surrey and Hampshire. We seek to transform lives through kindness, belief, and hope.

Our four Lighthouse communities (Woking, Barnsbury, Aldershot and Guildford) host a range of creative projects to support, encourage, and empower anyone who finds themselves in need.

Run primarily on the generosity of donations and volunteers, The Lighthouse is a living expression of love in action.

Love for all, compassion, dignity, respect, honesty, courage, a place to belong, generosity, acceptance, integrity, truth, hospitality, wholeness, peace, authenticity, community, significance, kindness, belief, hope, freedom, and the love of God.

We seek to transform lives through kindness, belief and hope...

BELIEF - cultivating significance, belonging and faith.

HOPE - inspiring a future marked by worth, purpose and resilience.

Who is The Lighthouse for?

The Lighthouse supports anyone who finds themselves in need.

This might include those experiencing loneliness or social isolation, individuals with mental or physical health challenges, people who have experienced violence in the home, those struggling with the cost of living crisis, refugees, families lacking support, youth, people in later life, households experiencing food poverty and many more.

Anyone can join our community, and a professional referral is only needed for our Jigsaw Storehouse or Woking Foodbank projects. Everything else individuals and families can just turn up to.

More than 8,000 people benefit from The Lighthouse projects every year.

How does The Lighthouse work?

The Lighthouse is a registered charity, part of Emmaus Transformation Trust, and our team of over 350 volunteers are supported by a small staff team.

We are able to stay open through the generosity of financial donations, skills and time from local businesses, churches, schools and individuals.

WOKING

Our Lighthouse in Woking town centre was a large derelict building, earmarked for demolition, which has been lovingly refurbished and revitalised into a community space that's filled with kindness, belief, and hope. Run primarily on the generosity of donations and volunteers, we currently host over 20 projects to tackle local need.

BARNSBURY

Our Lighthouse on the Barnsbury estate is a cosy community hub, which is all about conversation and supporting one another. Our projects currently focus on young people, older people and those who are in need of local community, friendship and support.

Aldershot

The Lighthouse Aldershot is a friendly community space with many opportunities for people to receive and give support, based in Park Ward. We exist to provide for each other when we are going through life’s ups and downs, by creating a sense of community and belonging and helping to meet practical need too.

Guildford

The Lighthouse Guildford currently hosts pop-up projects to support anyone in need at Founders Studio, Millbrook. This includes families, those struggling with the cost of living crisis, and people wanting help with debt and budgeting matters.

CAN YOU HELP?

Do you have time to volunteer? Maybe you have clothes or toiletries you could donate? Or, can you give financially to help a family with the cost of living? Your skills, time and donations are exactly what people in your local community need.

GIVE HELP

The positivity that your service exudes is definitely well received by visitors and vulnerable adults. They feel very valued and cared for whilst at The Lighthouse, like going to your friend’s house and having a cosy chat and leaving feeling more positive in spirit… The sense of community and care promoted by all staff is phenomenal and I have never seen anything like it. The integrity and compassion you demonstrate towards others is heartfelt.
