Role Overview

Emmaus Transformation Trust is a local charity, working in the community to support the residents of Woking, Guildford, and Aldershot.  The charity works from buildings we call Lighthouses. Each Lighthouse is a vibrant hub that hosts a range of free projects to support, encourage and empower anyone in our community who may find themselves in need.

This is an exciting time of growth for the charity. We are looking for a dynamic and confident Fundraising Officer to coordinate and help to grow our fundraising function and income streams.

As a charity which started through a church, we are rooted in our Christian faith and values. While there isn’t an occupational requirement for the post holder to be Christian, they will be an ambassador for the charity and will need to be comfortable expressing these values to external audiences.

Role Responsibilities

The role will report into the Lighthouse Directors and will work alongside Lighthouse managers, project leaders and external fundraising consultants.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

Community Fundraising

  • Coordinate community fundraising activities, developing an annual rhythm of fundraising events, and providing support to individuals and organisations who would like to fundraise on behalf of the charity.

  • Support, develop and supervise volunteer Fundraising Champions to extend our reach across the community, raising awareness and funds for The Lighthouse projects.

  • Match volunteers with awareness raising opportunities, ensuring that volunteers are equipped to fully fulfil their ‘champion’ role.

  • Grow the database of active supporters.

Fundraising Campaigns

  • Run a minimum of two appeals/campaigns a year, including communications, publicity, and engaging with local individuals, businesses and organisations.

  • Grow the number of regular givers and support the growth of legacy pledges, through appeals and communications.

  • Keep up to date with fundraising trends, updating The Lighthouse teams and implementing new opportunities as they arise.

Fundraising Communications

  • Be the first point of response for community fundraising queries, ensuring that all communications are responded to a timely and appropriate way.

  • Thank donors for their donations in a timely manner.

  • Keep donors informed of updates and good news stories.

  • Share fundraising activities and news with Lighthouse staff and volunteers.

  • Support the production of fundraising materials working alongside the inhouse design team.

  • Be a conduit between the Fundraising and Communications team, sharing fundraising activities that can be promoted on social media, and ensuring the Lighthouse website is kept up to date.

  • Accurately input information and data on the CRM database.

  • Report on data from the CRM database.

  • Prepare reports for external and internal stakeholders.

Fundraising Team Support

  • Support fundraising consultants, providing information and assistance where needed.

  • Support the Lighthouse Centre Managers and Project Leaders to ensure written and spoken communications about their work are of the highest standard and timely to maximise the opportunity of repeat funding.

The Individual – skills, experience, attitudes

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, or a complementary role such as business development.

  • Public speaking, presentations, and networking.

  • Ability to work flexibly as the role requires, this may include occasional evening and weekend work to support community events and fundraisers.

  • An understanding of fundraising good practice and GDPR.

  • Experience and proven ability to lead and develop volunteers.

  • Very strong communication skills, in person and in writing.

  • Confidence to take initiative, be resourceful and make decisions.

  • Organised and efficient, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Adaptable, flexible, and resourceful, willing to do what needs to be done.

  • Ability to hold a variety of responsibilities at the same time, and to prioritise effectively.

  • Adaptability as work grows and the role evolves.

  • Local and able to travel around Surrey with ease.

  • Empathy with and ability to model The Lighthouse values, which include compassion, dignity, acceptance, and a love for all.

The Lighthouse is founded on and driven by its Christian values and ethos.  Although we have volunteers of all faiths and none, the ambassador part of this role requires that the post holder share or have an affinity with our values and ethos and be able to positively discuss these with supporters and volunteers.
